Office Pretty Moms

6 May

I’ve got moms on the brain… Tonight I’m hosting a shower for  a dear friend who is having her first baby (a boy!) in July and on top of that, Mother’s Day is just around the corner.

Although we’re not moms, Jill and I do have the pleasure of sharing an office with some of the best new moms we know. In honor of the amazing working moms we all interact with daily, I’ve put together a few “kid tested, mother approved” work looks for new moms.

The collection above features smart looks for new moms who are headed back to work. (Thank you to the moms in our office for breaking down the reality of the working mom wardrobe for me.) This includes:

  • Sensible shoes that are comfortable and easy to walk in – I hear it’s hard to balance when you’re holding a baby in a car seat, a purse, a diaper bag, toys, a blanket, potentially a jacket, the little cooler with baby’s lunch… you get the picture.
  • A shirt dress – for nursing moms who want to wear a dress but don’t want to face the task of pumping or nursing in a dress that doesn’t button down up top.
  • High neck button down blouse and sweater – another must for nursing moms. These are both easy to unbutton for pumping and also feature fairly high necks, which means there’s no chance that the nursing bra will peek out of them.
  • Wrap dress – a wrap dress is flattering and easily adjustable, which is helpful when your weight is fluctuating. Fun prints are not only cute, but also can camouflage bits of baby food 🙂
  • Post earrings – I hear that the little ones love to reach up and pull out dangling earrings. These allow you to dress up your lobes without putting them at risk.
  • Cotton a-line skirt – Cotton = washable. Babies = messy. It just makes sense.

And for those who are on their way to motherhood. Here are a few super cute maternity favorites!

For more casual must-haves for new moms, Joanna Goddard breaks down her favorites on A Cup of Jo.

Great post, ladies! I especially like the cute cotton a-line skirt. Machine washable is a must these days. 🙂

Love this post! Especially the cotton skirt and the shirt dress. This isn’t surprising, but I’ve really come to depend on the flexibility that a good skirt can offer for a working mom’s ever-changing body type. And machine washable? Best two words in my mommie wardrobe.
