Guest Post: Office Hot

18 Aug

It’s the hottest day of the week here in Denver. Office Pretty is coming to the rescue with another fantastic guest post. As a Florida native, Courtney has first-hand experience in dressing for the office on days so hot it should be illegal to do anything other than sit in the shade and sip lemonade. Fun fact about Court: she used to work for Dress for Success, a nonprofit that all Office Pretty readers should consider worthy of their gently used clothing donations. xo

Hi gals! You could say that I’m a warm weather pro. Here in Florida, we sunbathe on Christmas and summer seems like our only season. And this year seems especially h-o-t!

Long pantsuits and darling stockings are simply not an option here. I’ve curated a list of breathable chic options that won’t have you sweating.

1. The secret is the sleeveless dress. In Florida, this is my year-round go-to item. By keeping the neckline and hemline conservative, a sleeveless dress can be office appropriate. Here are a few of my favs:

2. Be prepared with light layers. One of summer’s challenges is that while it’s hot outside, air conditioning makes it cold inside. The solution is to have a few neutral layering options on hand. A tailored jacket. A creamy short-sleeve cardigan. A tissue cardi. That way, when the boss calls an emergency meeting to discuss how brilliant you are, you’re prepared.

One of these might be perfect for you:

Fingers crossed for an early fall,

I can see you wearing every one of the dresses viewed. Thanks for the nice words about Dress for Success Greater Orlando too.

I totally agree, sleeveless dresses and tissue thin cardis are the way to go! I also keep a pair of flip flops hidden under my desk to give my feet a break. 🙂

Thanks for the tip about cardigans. I’ll have to stop by J. Crew on my way home from work!
