Work That Party

16 Nov

It’s just about that time of year: The “oh crap! I have nothing to wear to my office holiday party” time of the year.

Dressing for a work party (or even worse, your significant other’s work party) is tricky. I start looking early for something that is appropriate, pretty and even a little fancy.

One option is to mix a fancier fabric like lace or satin with tailored slacks or a pencil skirt. Wearing something office-appropriate on the bottom ensures you won’t be showing too much skin; wearing something fancy on top will help you feel dressed up enough for an evening event.

  • Something feminine like this (the color is perfect for the holidays) would look great with slender black slacks or a black pencil skirt. *Tip: To dress up a pencil skirt for evening hours, consider wearing fancy tights like these.
  • This fancy top, which looks a little more “evening,” can still work in the office when paired with a skirt and blazer. *Tip: A well-tailored black blazer can instantly turn a top from weekend wear to office-appropriate.
  • A top with sparkly detail also works well for the holidays. This top would look cute with a shorter black skirt, but could also work on the weekends with skinny jeans. *Tip: If you want to wear a shorter skirt, consider pairing it with super opaque tights like these.

There are also some beautiful dresses that can easily work for evening events, but still be appropriate because of conservative components like the cut or color.

  • This dress is a gorgeous color and the fabric just screams “I’m fancy.” The cut is that of a dress that I would typically wear to work, which is why this piece is the perfect combination.
  • A red dress feels distinctly holiday. The cut of this dress works for lots of body types and the length makes it appropriate for a work party. Can you imagine how cute it would be with red lips, fishnets and standard pumps? *Tip: Don’t be afraid to try a bolder lip or smokey eye if the event is at night.
  • A LBD is, of course, always a great option. This dress could easily work for the office with pumps and opaque tights. I would pair it with sparkly pantyhose, cute shoes and fun jewelry to make it feel a bit more festive. *Tip: A long-sleeved LBD like this is a great investment piece. I promise you will wear it all. the. time. in the fall and winter months.
A party is the perfect time to look and feel pretty! Stay tuned for more holiday help throughout the next six weeks.
P.S. How beautiful is this beaded dress for a non-work event?

Ok you girls just read my mind! Mason’s Christmas banquet (for high net worth clients so I’m stressing about about looking appropriate) is right around the corner and I’m shopping for an outfit today! Thanks for the advice!!
