Grandma? Is that you?

8 May

We interrupt this productive work day to bring you an important update on celebrity style. At last night’s Met Gala in NYC – an annual red carpet event known for its high-style – a slew of famous faces dressed like grandmas. But, no, seriously.

SJP in her grandmother’s old bedspread.

Laura Carmichael in a dress she borrowed from the Dowager Countess.

Ashley Olsen in an old woman dress by her label (The Row).

Lille Collins in re-purposed kitchen curtains from the ’70s.

I hope your photo captions were an attempt at humor, because I think they all (okay, except SJP, just because I don’t like the print) look fabulous — elegant and classic and timeless. Ashley Olsen’s dress is to die for, and Laura Carmichael’s, too — show me any dowager with a v-neck to her navel, I dare you! (and her leggings underneath are adorable)

It’s all in good fun! To check out all the looks from the night, we recommend this slide show from New York Magazine.

Gotta agree with you ladies. I’m no fashionista, but even my bad ’80s, combat-boot wearing self thinks these looks are less than flattering — and I’m all about retro and vintage looks, but yikes! Totally grandma’s bedspread.
