I bet you thought it was over

3 Jan

I’ll bet you thought it was over, but it’s not. It’s totally not.

We’ve missed you, dear readers, and are ready to kick off the New Year by returning to triumphantly share our Christmas favorites, sales finds and other office-appropriate fashion must haves. So, come along as we re-launch Office Pretty in 2013.

Dots and necklace Jcrew green

I’ve posted my press-conference-chic ensemble above. Nothing says “breaking health care policy news” like a statement necklace paired with polka dots. Nothing.

Made(really)well

26 Oct

On Wednesday, the JCrew brand Madewell* opened a store in the Cherry Creek Mall, making it the Mile High City’s first official shop. We took a field trip as soon as possible and today we’re both wearing new Madewell items that are quickly becoming our fall favorites.

Laura picked up the Striped Diary Dress and added brown boots, black tights, and a blue suede belt to accentuate the waist. Jill got the Easygoing Tee in Dot, initially intended for this skirt that has turned out to be tricky to match, but equally appropriate for a casual Friday.

What’s your favorite Madewell fall item?

*According to JCrew’s About page, they introduced Madewell in 2006 as “modern-day interpretation of an American denim label founded in 1937.”

That’s Tight(s)

The falling snow signals the beginning of something big for me – a reason to pull out my tights. Yesterday, in anticipation of the cooler weather, I wore a new pair of striped tights with this classic black dress. I like the combo quite a lot, if I may say so myself.

Here are a few other fun tights to mix in to your work wardrobe this fall and winter.

Superheros of Fashion

23 Oct

The cape has been attempting a comeback for at least a season or two. But judging by the streets in Paris, it’s back. For real.

Remember the red cape from my post last week? That was a real bona fide cape (a closure at the neck, a lovely drape, and slits for easy arm movement).

But the other thing I saw in France was the wannabe-cape: wearing a regular coat draped over the shoulders as if it were a cape.

Don’t you just love capes?! They’re elegant and glamorous, yet many of the ones on the rack today are casual enough for everyday wear. Here are a few of my favorite finds:

  • Funnel neck. Houndstooth. Double-buckle closure. Need I say more? Ralph Lauren wool cape ($150)
  • Looking for a little more waist definition? This belted cape by Cole Haan is made of a cosy wool-cashmere blend (SALE! $286)
  • This affordable cape by MaxStudio has minimal styling but a long, dramatic shape (SALE! $148)
